Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education 3-Year Plan
This is a sample plan of study that shows all degree requirements and when they should be completed. There may be some flexibility on the sequencing of coursework, and you will work with an advisor each semester to make final selections. Full academic progress must be maintained each semester to complete the degree in three years.
If a high school student takes the following Education Professions Graduation Pathway courses, the student could complete a BS in Secondary Education in 3 years. Students should consult with their academic advisor for individualized planning.
Secondary education majors must select a specific content area for licensure. The grid below is a sample plan for History Education with history requirements listed in bold. Other content areas that would follow a similar plan include Math, Science, English, Art, and World Languages. The bolded courses would change depending on the chosen content area.

Assumptions
- Political Science concentration – this is similar to completing a minor, which some majors require. The above plan uses Political Science as a concentration example.
- Admission to Teacher Education - all students must complete the Admission to Teacher Education (ATE) process. This happens before enrolling in the internship courses (EDUC 418 and EDUC 419). This process includes a professional portfolio with artifacts from previous coursework and an interview with two faculty members.
- No Harlaxton option – with this plan, a student would not be able to study abroad at Harlaxton.
* Assumes FYS 111 requirement has been met. Consult your academic advisor to ensure you will meet this requirement.
